International Women's Day with Sarah De Martin

UK MD Sarah De Martin on being a female leader within Artefact and imposter syndrome

news and insights

As it’s International Women’s Day we wanted to speak to inspiring woman from Artefact and find out a little more about them. So we spoke to Sarah De Martin about how she got to where she is today, what she wishes she had been told earlier in her career and some advice for other women in the industry.

What’s your role within Artefact?

Managing Director

What do you enjoy most about your position?

I love working with clients and supporting them with strong business growth strategies that really make a difference. We have a great team at Artefact and they are part of the success and I really enjoy working along side them

What does a regular work day look like for you?

Meeting after meeting after meeting…..

Being pulled in a dozen different directions at once and constantly reprioritising – all comes with the job!

I use the early morning and evening to produce material for clients, it’s my quiet time

How did you get to where you are today?

I started off my career as a lawyer, then after 18 months decided the world of advertising was far more exciting. Since then I’ve made a number of strategic moves (full service to media, digital and then consulting) that have enabled an accumulation of a broad skill set.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

An equine vet (arguably I’d still love to do this!)

What is something you wish someone had told you when you where at the start of your career?

There are some things we do that are simply a thankless task, so don’t become too emotionally tied in to everything

Do you have words of wisdom you would like to share with your female colleagues?

Don’t let the imposter syndrome get hold of you, you can achieve your goals and step up to the mark if you set your mind to it
